Isla CanelaIsla Canela is a natural island joined by a bridge to Ayamonte (Huelva), a town with pure Andalusian charm, it has become a popular tourist destination for Spanish and Portuguese
holidaymakers.
Isla Canela is located in the southwest of Spain, in the province of Huelva, between the Andalusian Atlantic and the Portuguese Algarve. It shares the charms of both Andalusia and the Algarve, and is set within an area of spectacular coastal scenery, with wide, sandy beaches, sand dunes and salt marshes.
Beaches & ActivitiesThe beautiful 7 kilometre beach of fine, golden sand is what attracts tourists to Isla Canela. For golf enthusiasts there is an 18 hole golf club, and a marina and commercial centre, provide good amenties such as shops, bars and restaurants.
Outdoor pursuits such as sailing, canoeing, motor boats, tennis, fishing and diving, are available in
the area.
Getting thereIsla Canela is easily accessible from any part of Europe as there are two airports, Seville airport
(160 kms by motorway A-49 Huelva - Seville) and Faro airport in Portugal (50 kms crossing the international bridge that unites Spain and Portugal.
CuisineAndalusian cuisine has an Arabic influence, the occupation made a strong impact on the cuisine of
southern Spain. Typical today are barbecued meats, sauces flavoured with cumin or saffron and sweets made from crushed almonds. Plus cured meats and sausages, such as chorizo and morcilla.
The region is also famous for its grilled fish, especially sardines, deep fried calamares (squid). Tapas were invented in Andalusia and a wide variety of them are served throughout the region.
ClimateThe climate in Isla Canela is mainly Mediterranean, with generally hot and dry summers and mild winters. The area is considered a year round destination.
