El Hierro

The southern and smallest island of El Hierro, situated in the archipelago Canary Islands, is a paradise destination for scuba divers, with its crystal clear, turquoise waters and stunning marine life, boasting one of the best ocean floors on the planet.

lush valleys, volcanoes and dramatic soaring cliff scenery.

Eco Tourism
El Hierro is an ideal destination for eco and nature tourism. It has been passed over by main-stream
tourism, to the delight of its visitors. The island has been classified a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

The island contains a variety of landscapes, from the dry lava fields and volcanic formations to the south and west, to the fertile plains of the El Golfo Valley, and the dense pine woods and laurisilva woods in the centre of the island.

El Hierro Coastline
The coastal scenery is rugged and harsh, with inaccessible cliffs soaring 3000 feet up to the sky, wonderful natural bays and rock pools, which provide the perfect setting for swimming and
scuba diving.

Towns and villages of El Hierro

El Hierro is divided into three municipalities: Valverde, Frontera and El Pinar.

Valverde is the capital of El Hierro, even though it is just a village. The delightful village has no high
rise building and very little traffic. There are many wonderful cultural attractions that present the history of El Hierro. The local villages of the municipality are made up of tiny fishing villages, bays and agricultural centres.

Frontera incorporates the villages of El Golfo, Sabinosa, El Pinar and La Restinga Here you will find valleys of fruit orchads and the Joapira Mountain. The area is also home to the village of Sabinosa, one of the most enchanting places on the island.

The region of El Pinar is one of the highest on the island, and is characterised by conifer woods, pine woods and agricultural lands.

Climate
