L’Ampolla

The origin of the name L’Ampolla. which translated means bottle, comes from the former shape of the mouth of the River Ebro. In fact, all the features of the delta have played a role in creating the character of this town: the sea, the bay, the water, the land and the dunes. A mixture of Mediterranean essences, alternating between flat alluvial land and craggy coast depict the terrain; between mud and rocks; olive trees and rice fields; marl rocky banks and lagoons
.

Beaches
L'Ampolia has two types of beaches, sandy beaches with calm shallow waters, ideal for children and families and pebbly beaches surrounded by cliffs and coves, perfect for snorkeling and swimming in crystal clear waters.

The three sandy beaches are Platja del Arenal, Platja de les Avellanes and Platja Cap Roig and the pebble options are Platja dels Pinets, Platja dels Capellans, Platja del Bacone.

Excursions
A visit to Deltaventur, a themed natural education centre in the heart of the Ebro delta is great day out for the famil, plus Spain’s largest theme park, Port Aventura, is close by in Salou.

Leisure & recreation
Aside from the beach and theme parks, there are many possible activities to keep you occupied, including Tennis, Water sports, Horse Riding, Golf, Fishing and Cycling.

There are many paths for walkers and runners to enjoy and the evenings there are several places to relax and enjoy some great Spanish music.

Cuisine

As a delta town with a fishing tradition, LAmpolla boasts a rich cuisine, unique to this region.
Naturally enough, being a fishing village, it has the very best varieties of fresh delta fish and exquisite shellfish, including the delta oyster, which can be eaten either raw or cooked, using the innovative recipes created by the local chefs.

The influences of the region can be noted in traditional Catalan dishes such as Fideua, a paella type dish made with noodles instead of rice, eel in sauce and smoked eel. These along with black rice and Rice a Banda (paella rice) are among a wide variety of rice dishes that have been created using the delicate products of the land and the Mediterranean sea.

For those with a sweet tooth there are the traditional desserts such as Coc de Brossat, cakes made with cabell d'angel (a kind of sweet vermicelli) and Les Coquetes de la Creu.

Climate
L’Ampolla is favoured by the typical Mediterranean climate with temperatures ranging between 14° in the winter and 35º in summer months.
