Sant Carlos de la RapitaThe lively town of Sant Carlos de la Rapita, or in its native Catalan Sant Carles de la Rapita is situated in the comarcas of Montsia on the Costa Dorada, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain.
Situated on the coast near the mouth of a lagoon, Sant Carlos de la Rapita is also a chief fishing port in the region and as such seafood lovers will be heaven here. The restaurants are brimming with the delicious, fresh catch of the day. The town is said to be the gastronomical capital of the Terres de l’Ebre region.
HistoryThe town was established by King Carlos III as a port to serve trade to the colonies and new world. For many years it’s principal market was in the production of rice and salt, as well as being an important fishing port.
About townThe attractive town has ample facilities and services, including two marinas, shops, bars, restaurants, medical centre and post office.
BeachesSant Carlos de la Rapita is home to several beautiful beaches. Wide golden sand stretches, which offer good facilities, such as restaurants, toilets and showers, and water sports equipment and hire is also available.
CuisineThe cuisine of Sant Carlos de Rapita is excellent. Known as the capital of gastronomy in the local region, and home to an important fishing port. There is a heavy slant on seafood dishes, especially shellfish – oysters, prawns and also eels are local delicacies.
