Cutar

Cutar is a gorgeous little whitewashed village, located in remarkable landscape, in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda of the Axarquia region. The scenery is majestic mountainous, contrasting with a fertile land filled with olive groves and vineyards winding down to the rivers La Cueva and Cutar.

It’s the perfect place for a relaxing holiday, or to the contrary, an activity-filled experience in the mountains. The proximity to the coastline makes it a good jump off point to explore the rest of the Costa del Sol.

The village is located 40 kilometres from Málaga city; a car journey which will take around an hour. Lying inland, the closest area of coastline is around Vélez Málaga, 26 kilometres or 40 minutes drive to the south.

North of the village is the dominating peak of Peña de Hierro y Cutar, 585 metres above sea level, where Neolithic and Iron Age archaeological finds have been made.

History
The village was named during the Arab kingdom of Al Andalus and was the site of a since demolished castle. The name Cutar possibly comes from the Arabic Cautzar meaning Fountain of Life and interestingly there is a unique fountain within the village.

Cutar's history has been tumultuous; however the village is now a quiet and charming spot, perfect for rest and relaxation.

Cuisine
The cuisine in Cutar is typical for the region, with much fresh produce being grown on its doorstep. In the cafés, restaurants and tapas bars in the village you will find an emphasis of meat and seafood dishes. In more traditional bars you can often be served a free ration of Tapas with the order of a small beer or glass of wine.

Climate
As with the rest of the region, Cutar enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. There is approximately 300 days of sunshine and the proximity to the sea keeps temperatures manageable during the summer months.

Cutar review

Cutar is a very small hilltop village so one should not have too many expectations. We found it thoroughly charming. More than adequate for local shopping and bars, restaurants etc.

Costa del Sol reviews

We did not visit the coast area at all.

Cutar review

Cutar is a little andalucian village with tipical tapasbars. As well we liked the neighbouring village of Benamargosa with supermarkets , Bars, Banks etc. Málaga is about 45 min. away. the coasttown Torre del Mar has wide long beaches, perfect for long walks

Costa del Sol reviews

We like Málaga, Picasso Museum, Torre del Mar, Nerja. The Perfect mix of buzzy life at the coast and tranquility at the Villa
