Los Cristianos

Los Cristianos lies on the south coast of the Tenerife in a wide bay with a backdrop of volcanic mountains. It is without doubt one of the most popular holiday destinations across all the Canary Islands.

The clean, artificial beaches, charming fishing harbour, all year round sunshine and an endless list of local attractions, all go to make Los Cristianos one of the most attractive European beach destinations.

The town tends to attract a more discerning holidaymaker, compared to its neighbour Playa de las Americas. It has made a great effort to ensure that all new development stays within the feel of the original architecture, and still emanates the atmosphere of the old fishing village that it once was.

Beaches
The beautiful golden beach of Los Cristianos has actually been made with sand imported from the Sahara Desert. The beach gently shelves into the Atlantic Sea, which is normally calm, but can have some strong undercurrents.

There are a host of water sports available on the beach, including windsurfing, diving, jet skis, sailing and light hearted activities such as banana boats. There are also businesses along the beach that offer sailing trips, pleasure cruises, glass bottom boats, diving excursions and ferries to La Gomera.

In fact Los Cristianos is one of the best places to set off on a deep sea safari, trips can be taken from the harbour.

A lovely clean promenade runs all the way along the beach to the neighbouring resort of Playa de las Americas.

Around town
The lovely town of Los Cristianos with its pretty square in front of the fishing harbour, charming streets and excellent shopping is a perfect location for family holidays. The town is home to a wide selection of shops, bars, restaurants, clubs and attractions.

Places to visit
Aqua Park Octopus: A great day out for all the family, watch the Dolphin Show and take an adrenalin ride on one of the many water slides. There are also swimming pools, sunbed areas and a selection of restaurants, snack bars and shops.

Parque Las Aguilas (Eagle Park):  Located three or four miles outside of Los Cristianos, the Eagle Park is one of Tenerife’s most exciting attractions. Designed to give the feel of being in a jungle, with exotic tree and plant species, parrots and animal enclosures with fascinating specimens such as the Pygmy Hippos and White Tigers (not in the same enclosure of course!). The park also has onsite shops and restaurants, and is a great day out for all the family.

Parque Loro - Over 20,000 aquatic animals and plants live in the world’s most modern aquarium in the Parque Loro. View life under the sea in this silentsubmarine world, where sharks swim just above your head and a thousand neon fish light up their aquarium with colour.

Camel Park (Near Los Cristianos) – A great one for the children, where they can experience a camel ride and a delicious Arabic style meal afterwards.

Cactus and Animal Park (Near Los Cristianos) - A botanical garden specialising in Cacti species from the desert and other arid regions. There is an animal park here as well that houses different species, from terrapins to marmosets.

Located next door is the 7000 sq m, Amazonia tropical rain forest, where the kids can see tiny hummingbirds, parrots, and other exotic bird life.

Karting Club Tenerife
is located 7 km from Los Cristianos. The club has five different kart models and three different circuits. There is a lot more on offer than just karting; with billiards, events, scaletrix and other competitions and a bar and restaurant.

Eating out
The restaurants and dining options in Los Cristianos are of a very high quality, with a diverse selection of cuisines on offer. There are traditional Spanish restaurants, serving delicious local seafood, and tapas, plus British and Irish, Chinese, Italian and Indian options, amongst others.

Climate
The Canary Islands enjoy practically all year round good weather. They are nicknamed the Islands of Eternal Spring and temperatures rarely drop below 16ºC and rise to around 30ºCin the summer. The climate is influenced by the island close proximity to North Africa.

Los Cristianos review

Quiter area than Playas des Americas, but plenty there, very reasonable restaurants, lots do 3 course meals from 9 euros. Local market Tuesday and Sunday's. Plenty of places to book trips. Nice bars along the front serving cocktails. It's a long walk, we did it often, right along the front to Playas des Americas where you will find upmarket shops and also MacDonalds if required or take a taxi from the local rank. Lovely people, Canarian and English proprietors. Will definitely be visiting again.
