Castelltercol

Castelltercol is located in the north east of the province of Barcelona, in a beautiful region consisting of rolling countryside, mountain slopes and forested hills. The airports of Girona and Barcelona are both approximately one hours drive.

Situated in the high planes of Vallès, Castelltercol is a small town with lots of old charm; the medieval churches of Sant Fruitós and Sant Francesc and a restored castle give the town its ancient character. Summer concerts take place at the castle.

Castelltercol used to be a wool and ice-producing town, recently a number of second homes have sprung up in and around the village, as it becomes a popular destination.

Castelltercol town centre has a shopping street with everything you need on a local scale. Plenty of shops, a small supermarket, butchers, fishmonger, terraced cafes, restaurants, and tapas bars.

Beaches
The spectacular beaches of the Costa Brava are a short drive away, and well worth at least a day’s trip.

Leisure & recreation
There are many leisure activities available locally, including tennis, hot air ballooning, river fishing, cycling, pony trekking, hiking, tennis and fell running.

There are several very fine restaurants to enjoy the hearty upland cuisine, as well as some more sophisticated places catering to the palate of the wealthy  who make this their second home.

Golf
The Club de Golf Castelltercol is located in the town.

Cuisine
The gastronomy of Catalonia is rich and varied. Principally it is the typical Mediterranean diet of fish and seafood with fresh vegetables, olives and olive oil rice and pasta.

We recommend that visitors try some traditional Catalan dishes whilst on holiday, especially delicious are

Escudella I Carn D'olla, vegetable broth with pork, veal and chicken. Pa Amb Tomàquet,

simply rustic bread, can be toasted, rubbed with tomato pulp and dressed with oil and salt; these delcious breakfast can also be served with ham, sausage or tortilla.

Coca is a very thin dough baked with onions, peppers and other vegetables served with and meats, or fish (especially sardines).

Climate
The village has little rainfall as there is no mountain range between it and the sea to push up the thermals and encourage precipitation. Summers can be quite hot with temperatures above 30C commonplace between June and September. Winters can be cold with temperatures below zero not unheard of, and it frequently snows at some point!
